Scary Christmas #4: Swan Song // Strašidelný Advent #4: Labutí píseň

Pro poslední týden Strašidelného Adventu jsem vybral zatím nejnovější příspěvek zde na blogu. Originál je opět v angličtině a česká verze je překlad. Jedná se o příběh o nadcházející zimě, což většinou znamená, že něco zároveň končí. A tentokrát to není pouze podzim. Navíc se jmenuje Labutí píseň, což je další odkaz na to, že se něco chýlí ke konci, což pěkně koresponduje s časem publikování. Užijte si dopis od muže, který se stal svědkem toho, čím byl roky posedlý.

Now, for the ultimate week of this year's Scary Christmas, I have the most recent outing on this blog so far. Again, the English version is the original, the Czech is a translation. It's a story about a winter coming up, which usually means that something is ending. It's not just the autumn, though. There's more to it. Plus, its title - Swan Song - is a reference to something coming to an end as well, which suits the timing of publishing. Enjoy this little letter from a man who have witnessed something he was obsessed about for years.

Scary Christmas #3: The Night Bus // Strašidelný Advent #3: Noční autobus

Čas kvapí a už tu máme třetí adventní neděli, samozřejmě opět strašidelnou. Tentokrát jsem se pohrabal v archivu a vybral povídku, kterou pozorní čtenáři už mohli číst. Byla to první povídka zde na blogu, následně byla přes rok skryta, protože se účastnila soutěže, a po uzavření a vyhodnocení soutěže byla vrácena zpět na své místo z léta roku 2016. 

Nově jsem jí dal i anglickou verzi. Povídku stále řadím mezi ty Top, co jsem napsal, líbí se mi její atmosféra, tak doufám, že se bude líbit i Vám. Příjemné počtení (mráz běhající po Vašich zádech je efekt, na nějž autor cílil)!

Time is running fast and we're now into third week of Scary Christmas. This time I dived into my archive and dug up a story a careful reader might have read in the past. It was the first published story on this blog, later was hidden for over a year when it was participating in a competition, and then restored back into its place in 2016 when the competition was concluded.

This year, I completed the English version of the story, which I still consider one of the best ones I've created. I love the atmosphere and hope you'll love it too. Enjoy the story (and note that shivers down your spine is author's desired outcome)!

Scary Christmas #2: The Visitor // Strašidelný Advent #2: Návštěvník

Pro druhý adventní týden jsem si vybral příběh, který by se spíše řadil do kategorie sci-fi. Po prvním hororovém příspěvku takové menší oddechnutí, ačkoli napětí opět chybět nemůže. Samotný nápad jsem si chvíli nosil s sebou, než jsem našel správnou formu, jak jej prezentovat. Povídka vznikla jako vůbec druhá povídka v angličtině a česká verze je tedy opět překlad.

Spíše než sci-fi galaktických válek se jedná o klasickou formu žánru s částečnou inspirací povídkami českého vizionáře Ludvíka Součka. Základem je skečovitý příběh zasazený do fiktivního světa, jenž není prokreslený do detailu, neboť to ani forma ani rozsah nevyžadují. Věřím, že se povídka bude líbit i lidem, kteří běžně sci-fi nečtou, a to proto, že se nejedná o složité popisy světů, kreatur a technologií. Jedná se o sci-fi okrajové, které bych sám pojmenoval spíše nai-fi (sci-fi = science fiction, nai-fi = naive fiction, tedy naivní fikce, ne nutně založená na vědeckých základech).

For second Scary Christmas story I picked a sci-fi piece. After the first, purely horror/thriller experience, this will be a relaxing moment of sorts, though the suspense is a must. The idea was with me for some time, I was just looking for the right way of presenting it. It is a second story written in English and then translated into Czech language.

Rather than galactic-wars-esque sci-fi, this is a classical piece of the genre with partial inspiration by short stories by Czech visionary Ludvík Souček. Its basis is a sketchy narrative set in a fictional world only vaguely described, more focused on the idea than the world itself. I am certain even readers who are not into sci-fi will enjoy this story because it is not focused on sparkling battles, descriptions of worlds, creatures and technologies. I like to think of it as a new sub-category of the genre I call nai-fi (sci-fi = science fiction, nai-fi = naive fiction).
